It was recalled at the annual meet- ■ ing ,cf the Canterbury Cricket Association that Mr F. Wilding, K.C.(father of the lamented world-cham-pion tennis player), who was re-elec-ted president, was one of the few men in New Zealand who had taken 100 wickets and made 1000 runs in first class cricket in one season. Dr Thacker, M. P., has forwarded to the Hon. Dr. McNab, PostmasterGeneral, the following telegram: “A repeated series of interruptions by storms of all North and south Island, wire communications, seriously affect ing business and denying us late sinews, is still continuing. Will you obtain at once a comprehensive report! for securing at least one safe line of telegraph or cable between the two islands? This matter is urgent.” Dr. Thacker has also asked the Hon G. IV. Russell to bring the matter under the notice of the Government.
