CONCERT AT WINIATA.

IN AID OF SCHOOL FUND. One of the most pleasant local functions ever, held at Winiata, eventuated on Friday evening, in the nature of a concert given in aid of the Winiata School funds. Miss McPhee certainly provided an excellent and interesting programme, ample testimony of this was conveyed in the rapturous applause which greeted a resolution .of thanks to her for her efforts proposed in a neat and complimentary speech i>y Mr Blackie.

The attendance was extraordinarly good, and the total proceeds amounted to about £l2. The programme opened with a March of the Nations, followed by a chorus, "Keep the Home' Fires Burning." After a recitation by Sydney Smith, a very pretty drill by infants took place. A dialogue by Olive' Rutherford and Micky Bresriahan, also a recitation by Miss Nelly Holder, were very pleasingly rendered. Hazel Welch and Geneva Winiata were amusing in their "I Don't Want to Play in Your Yard," and Hazel was-, equally good in her "Description of a Book." A well-rendered song by Miss Tyson, a dialogue by S. Smith, .N. Maka, and Nancy O'Dea, and a song by Nellie and Edith Holder, both pieces capably performed, ended the first half of a liberal programme. In the second half Enid Welch, Eona Blackie, Nellie Holder, Edith Holder, and S. Smith distinguished themselves, the duet by Rona Blackie and S. Smith being a particularly interesting item. The whole entertainment was indeed a credit to Miss McPhee, the secretary, and to the ladies of Winiata, who rendered every possible service in the good work. Mr H. D. Bennett briefly addressed the large audience on the merits of the object in view, and thanked them for their liberal patronage and assistance. It is understood that Mr Bennett gave a donation of £3 to the School funis.
