UTIKU-OHUTU NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The bubble of excitement that had been simmering in Utiku for the ; pa’st week or two burst last Friday evening, when a social was held in the room in honour of Mr E. Logan.' This gentleman has recently joined the benedicts, and he is so deservedly popular in the neighbourhood that his many friends could not allow the opportunity to pass without publicly •' showing their appreciation of his good 1 - J services. The function was largely at- : ’ j tended, the children in whose welfare Mr Logan has shown keen interest, > predominating. , ... .. •• The Eev_ Catherwood presided in his .'Sensual entertaining and general ner, and on behalf of the guests, many friends presented him with a handsome desk. The reverend gentleman spoke of Mr Logan’s work as an office-bearer in the Church,,, and of his. Sunday School work at Oliutu and Utiku, expressing the wish that h e and his wdfe would spend many years of happy and useful life in Utiku. The ■ Rev, Minifie and Mr Goldsbury, in short speeches, supported the Chairman, referring to the fihe character of, and useful life lived by Mr Logan. An enjoyable programme followed,, the following taking part:—Miss Crichton, Mesdmeas Chatfield, Tuck, Gibbs, Lewis, and Messrs Lewis, Ellson, Goldsbury, Crawford, Rev. Minifie,. and the school children. A liberal and sumptuous supper was provided by the ladies, the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” bringing the evening to a close. A word of praise is due'to Mrs Tuck and Mr Dellow, through whose untiring energies the success of the social was assured.
