TE KAPUA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) Storms of rain, with sleet and snow* have occurred in Te Ivapua those last few weeks, and there is some damage been done among young lambs and weak stock in consequence. Some slips have come down on fences and on roads, though not as bad a 3 it might have been. If it would only “take a pull” matters would soon adjust themselves. Grass is coming on very fast, hut a very great amount of water lies over the country, and creeks and streams are heavily flooded, T£ is sincerely hoped that the Australasia* summer rain supply is not falling over us now; it seems to be a very wet spring which possibly means a very dry summer. There is no doubt the settlers of the Upper Eangitikei did a very wise thing when they established the local freezing works, as everywhere' evidence shows of the improvement in farming. There is not a farmer about here without a few acres of ground under plough ready for cropping where none existed before. Instead of surplus stores going down country at a low price, it will now be turned out the finished article for oui; own works, which in itself is a big thing. In tire near future, it is safe to say, there will be a very large amount of fat stock going from Te Kapua to Taihapo Works, and it is possible some farmers will have to go down country to buy stores to fatten on the overplus of crops. It is reported that a local buyer has bought lambs for forward delivery at 14/--and -15/ —to the number of 26,000 —in January next.
