Mr Woodrow Wilson has accepted democratic nomination for the Presidency_ Regarding foreign affairs, he said: —Wo have been neutral because it is the fixed traditional policy of the United States to stand aloof from the politics of Europe, because she had no part in the influence which brought on war. Our duty was to prevent, if possible, indefinite extension and desolation kindled by the terrible conflict. We had to reserve our strength and resources for the anxious* difficult days of restoration, which must follow. When the rights of citizens became involved this waseqnr. guiding’ principle, while properfy-Aigllti can be vindicated by claims f.pr damages, when t|ie war |s yo.Jpr);..|bie fundamental fights ■&£ humanity cannot, therefore loss of life was irrepafable. Ncf ridfion slibuld be folded to take sidbd i‘h any quarrel wherein dtir‘ : honour, integrity, and fortunately our own people are not involved, but
no nation can any longer remain neutral against any wilful disturbance of the peace of the rvorld. Nations of the world must unite joint guarantees against whatever is done to disturb the whole world’s life. It must first bo tested in court,, and be the whole world ’s v opinion before force is attempted.
