KING ALFONSO'S GORILLA.
Letters from Madrid comment npon the emarkable antics of a tame gorilla presented to'the King by a German officer who took refuge on Spanish tcritory after escaping from the Oani*roons. The King sent the animal to the | stable, together with a niggfr whose sole' mission in lif e is to look after it. The monkey is supposed to be delicate, but its appetite is jdescribed as real German, notwithstanding. His table manners are also noticeably Teutonic. Rigged out in a blue and white striped jersey, sailors* breeches and jersey cap, would make a. typical German if only he wore glasses. Ho sleeps in a cradle, and has his own armchair and dining" table. The gorilla..is an endless source of amusement to the Royal children, and King. Alfonso is said.toJJe,yngag?G in personally attempting to teach him sortie new -irieks, including Spanish. dancing and the use of the castagnettes.
