ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO RESCUE. (Received 9.40). SANTIAGO, August 25., The Chilian Government has i>laced the yacht Yelcho at Shackleton 's disposal for a new attempt to reach Elephant Island, to rescue the men, or the scientific material, if the men succumbed. Shackleton has planned to sail in a few days. - . CASE OF CATTLE STEALING.
ALLEGED AGAINST A FARMER
COMMITTED TO SUPREME COURT.
DANNEVIRKE, This Day. Davis Ormond Smith, farmer, formerly of Tahoraite, was . committed for. trial at the Supreme Court for alleged theft of four heifers, the property of M. P. Knight. Bail, £2OO was granted. The cattle that are the subject of the charge, were sold at defendant's clearing sale, two being purchased by Mr Knight. Subsequent investigation led to prosecution. Smith peaded not guilty.
