UNDER THE MILITARY SERVICE ACT.
A FORTNIGHTS GRACE
FOR UNREGISTERED MEN
Some important announcements con cerning the enrolling of the Expeditionary Force Reserve under the Military Service Act are made in a circular which has been sent to all local bodies by the Pi’ime Minister. The Act is to be proclaimed on Friday, September Ist, and a period of 15 days thereafter will be allowed, during which every man not registered under the National Registration Act must enrol under the Military Service Ac?, and to allow every registered man to notify any change in his address. The circular, a specimen of which, it is understood, has been sent to boroiflgii councils, states that all enrolment cards and notifications must be sent to the oGvernment Statistician by registered letter, and for this purpose addressed and stamped envelopes will be obtainable at every post, office. “As Prime Minister and Chairman of the Recruiting Board,” the circular says, “I am appealing now to eacn local authority in the Dominion to use every means in its power during! the enrolment period—between the Ist and 16tli of September—to impress on the men concerned the obligation that is cast upon them to one or other of the foregoing things, and to emphasise the serious penalties that neglect of this duty will bring upon .them/* The circular also refers to the fact that the Act directly and specifically casts on the man himself the obligation to enrol if he has not already registered.
