ALLEN DOONE.
IN "MOLLY BAWN." \ ■■- - *~ • ' -• ■• - r* -'".i j Xotwithstanding the Cold wintry snap prevailing yesterday, the Town Hall was well filled last ni"ht to wit- . i|iess thp'bill of fare presented byHhat k splendid Irish actor, Mr Allen Doone. The reputation of Mr Doonejwas well upheld throughout the performance of the characteristic Irish drama, Mollf Bawn, the piece presented. In fact "the company is, with the exception of a few real stars, one of uniform excellence, and the applause by the large ' audience last night testified its realisation of this truth. The staging of the play was fine, the acting was fine, the singing was fine, some of Allen Doone's contributions being partiCul- " arly fine and the audience did not fail to let him know how highly they appreciated his efforts. Among the lady performers, Miss Ethel Bash ford and Miss Edna Keeley, as Marcia Amherst and Molly Bawn respectively, stood out prominently. Mr; Allen Doone's Ted Luttrell is perfection so far as typical Irish character representation goes, and his acting and singing need no criticism Frank Cullinane and ('live Farnharn also contributed excellent Thespian work. Th e usual piano accompaniments were reinforced by three local amateurs, which was a distinct improvement. As it was evident that the assistants were all p'aying from sight, and as dramatic music is well-known to be somewhat of a difficult nature, it would be out of place to find fault. The innovation was a success, and it is to be hoped that future caterers for Taihapc amusement will follow in a similar strain.
