A CHINESE PROTEST.
NO DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTED. (Received 9.35.). WASHINGTON, August 20. China has potested to Japan against sending 2000 troops to cheek the recent disturbance at Chengchiatung. China asserts the trouble was due to bandits. The situation was discussed in the Japanese Cabinet, but the Chinese Legation at Washington does not expect any serious development.
