WAR LOAN NEWS.

WANGANUI PATRIOTIC SOCIETIA INVESTS £IO,OOO. WANGANUI* 'fhis Day. The Wanganui Patriotic Committee* has decided to invest ten thousand pounds in the War Loan.

THE ENTHUSIASM GROWING. ,

An interesting development in connection with the loan is the fact that, although late in the day —unless some extension of the period during which, the bonds may be taken up is contemplated—the Government is developing its publicity campaign and is adopting new methods of reaching every section of the community. The prospectus and posters which have hitherto advertised the loan have been compressed into a neat little circular bearing the title, in black and red lettering across the front page, "How you can help to win the war,” and this is to be sent to every household. The importance of the co-operation of the Post Office is emphasised in this connection for the pamphlets arc to be distributed through the medium of the letter carriers, and in those country districts where there arc no carriers the postmaster is being asked to make himself responsible J’or the delivery of th circular. Sir Joseph Ward’s appeal for the help of the Post and Telegraph Department has now been received by all the postmasters of the districts in the form of a personal letter.

Another novel publicity method adopted is the utilisation of the picture palaces On all the picture screens in the cities, an’d in some of the suburban houses, tersely worded, forceful appeals for the support of the public arc being thrown on the screen at the intervals. BOOMING IN AUCKLAND. The Central Post Office continues to do a thriving business both in certificates and bonds, and during the last two days there has been a remarkable ■boom in the demand. On Tuesday, for instance, both the number of applicants and the amount taken up represented an increase of something like 400 per cent on the previous ’day.’Yesterday was another highly successful day, although the demand was- not .so great as on Tuesday. The staff liandling the work was again increased yes- ,■ , .•;> . . Airy terday.
