Private advices report the death in London of Mr Frank Front Mahoney, the well known Australian painter of animal life and figures. He was born in Melbourne 54 year s ago, and latterly has been living in London.
Mr Thomas Finucane, who died at Gisborne Hospital last week, aged 65 years, was, as a lad, employed on Bloomfield’s estate at the time of the Te Kooti raid at Matawhero, and the members ,cf the -household owed their escape to the prompt action of the lad. Fie had a mate named James, who worked for Major Biggs. When the Maoris murderously attacked the latter place, James escaped and hurried to warn his chum. Young Finucane immediately warned the Bloomfield house hold, and assisted to carry one of the children to Gisbcrne. The Bloomfield’s marked their appreciation cf the lad’s timely warning in a practical manner. i * _____
