GERMANY IN THE PACIFIC.
A Pamphlet on the Subject,
The most notable of the new German pamphlets on German colonisa-
tion, —after the war —is one by Admiral von Grapow, entitled "The German Flag in the Pacific." The Admiral is prohibited from discussing war and ■peace aims. ( but he leaves no doubts on his readers' minds that the re-estab-lishment of German power in the Pacific must be a sine qua non of the peace terms.
It is all very well to feel enthusiasm about the "Berlin to Bagdad corridor." but of far greater importance is the establishment of a great German African Empire in Northern and Western Africa, and the establishment of a great German Pacific Empire in the Southern Seas. The Pacific waters to which Germany lays claim extend, says the Admiral, over 45 degrees of latitude and :50 of longitude. They contain enormous territories. Why German New Guinea is half as big as Prussia, New Pomerania is bigger than Baden and Hesse together, and so on with comparisons between other archipela-
gos and various German States. We are told in an eloquent finale that Germany's honour and prestige are concerned in this matter, and that instead of merely insisting on a restitution of territory as it was before the war, there must be a loud and persistent demand for extensions
