AN ILLUMINATING APPEAL.
FROM THE POSTMASTER
GENERAL.
TO THOSE WHO CANNOT FIGHT. WELLINGTON, Thi s day. In eonnection wife the War Loan, the Postmaster-General has addressee the following letter to every officer or the Post and Telegraph Service:—"l am addressing you personally with a view to securing your co-operation in making the loan a success. Men have been leaving the country in thousanos for two years past for the purpose of fighting its battles, and money is neea ed as much as men in order to secura victory over a common enemy. You and I have not been able to take any part in the fighting, but we can do our part effectually by finding the money to; maintain the men who are fighting. Will you assist by subscribing personally and by bringing the matter under the notice of every one of your friends, and urging them to help their country, which needs the use of t-nc money now. Hitherto most of tlie money required for war has been obtained from the Old Country, though conditions of life are far harder there than they are here. While there are many New Zealanders brave enough to fight and die for their country, is it to be said ,of those who stayed behind that they were too mean even to pay? I shall be very glad if you will do an in your power to assist in preventing, such a reproach being deserved. Many of us are debarred from firing" leaden bullets, but we ail have the chance of firing a silver one now."
