GIRL AND CHINESE.
ROUND ABOUT AUCKLAND. FIVE CHINAMEN ARRESTED.. On Friday afternoon last a girl of thirteen attracted the attention or De* tective de Norville at Newton, in reply to the detective's enquiries, the girl told a story of regular visits to Chinese laundries round Auckland. She was 'arrested on a charge of being a child not under proper control, and on Saturday was remanded for a week, being lodjged meantime at the Door of Hope. In the interim, Detective de Norville and Plain-clothes Constable Young set out to investigate the girl's story respecting her mode of life and her allegations of how she obtained money, tne result being that this morning they arrested five Chinese from separate establishments in various parts of the city and suburbs. The arrested men were charged that on divers dates in June they had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl.
