ARISTOCRATIC MILKMAN.
CHANGES HIS WALK IN LIFls. SYDNEY, July 26. Through the death of the ninth Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, his brot>e the Hon. William H. Clifford, now living at Hobart, Tasmania, succeeds tthe title. This i s the announcement armade by a cablegram from Eng/laim. Some interesting particulars may » = added. The new Barcn Clifford, who was born in 185 S, went out to New Zealand when 20 years of age. He spent some years in the picturesqu---Dominicn, and then moved across to Tasmania, where he has been since. with a variety of "colonial" experiences. For a time he engaged in mixed farming. He also had a milk round, an'.' it is said that those who were his customers were sorry when he dropped out cf the dairy business because h:: milk was always delivered on time, and was never adulterated from the pump. Agencies for the sale of various things, including! books and photographic enlargements, occupied him for a while, and he also tried -.lis hand
at carpentering, and the owners of quite a number of weatherboard cottages in Tasmania wlil now be able to refer with pride to the handiwork or the English aristocrat. Attempts by him to secure election to the Federal and State Parliaments were unsuccessful. Perhaps his political failure had the same underlying reason as accounted for his abandonment of the milk business —that he could not compete with men who practised adulteration. Sir George Clifford, the wellknown New Zealand sporisman, :s a kinsman. The new baron will leave shortly for England to take up his residence en the family estate. He is a widower.
