IRISH REBELLION.
GENERAL MAXWELL'S DESPATCH. LONDON, July 21. General Maxwell's despatch regarding the Irish rebellion attributes the facility with which the Sinn Fe-iners were- able to i many important points in 'Dublin as clue to armed bodies of civilians being continually allowed to parade and march through the streets of Dublin and throughout the country without interference, so that
the movement of large civilian forces on a. holiday passed unnoticed. During the whole of the fighting, seventeen officers were killed and 46 wounded. Of other ranks. 89 were k'lled and 228
wounded. General Maxwell pays high .tributes to the behaviour of the troops in carrying out the disagreeable and distasteful duties. He emphasises that the responsibility for the loss of life and the destruction of property rests upon those who engineered the revolt ■and who invited the assistance and co-operation of the Germans.
