It descended in a fog, the pilot believed, behind the Russian lines, when he discovered the mistake the machine failed to restart. He was captured. CHARACTERISTIC OF GERMANS. LESSON TO THE BRITISH. The War Contingent Association ihad realised the urgency of establishing social headquarters for New Zealanders in France, and a sub-com-mittee has been entrusted to carry out the project with entire control The Association is providing the funds; the sub-committee themselves have contributed £SOO sterling. .By arrangements with the WarOffice they hav e obtained three mansions on a corner block with the use of the gardens comprising the square. The military' authorities approve of a scheme for providing the men with homelike surroundings, without military restrictions, within a few minutes of the Record Office. By war contingent rooms in Southampton Row the Association aims at attracting New Zealanders to a good neighbourhood, and to avoid loitering in slums. The war contingenters are to arrange a reception to provide complete acconmo<?ation for 200 and to direct others to approved boarding houses in the vicinity, to act as an information bureau, and to anrange ontirigs. The staff is composed entirely of New Zealanders. Sympathetic supervision has resulted in New Zealanders making ah. excellent impression.
