LONDON, July 18

Mr. Asquith has appointed a committee to consider the after-war com. mercial arid industrial policy ‘ with special reference to the Economic Conference’s recommendations. The committee will inquire (1) What industries- are essential to the future safety of the nation and the steps necessary to establish them; (2) What steps are necessary to recover home and foreign trade lost during the war and secure new- markets: (3) To what extent the means-of’the Empire’s resources can be developed; (4) To what extent and by what means the Empire sources of supply" can be prevented from falling into foreign control. • :

The committee includes Lord Balfour of Burleigh (chairman), Mr. Arthur Balfour, M. Gosling, W. A. S. Hewins, Mond, Sir F. B, Smith and Mr. Wardle, M.P.’s., together with the Faringdon committee.
