General Sir lan Hamilton ha s been personally decorated by General Joffre with the Cross of the Legion of Honour before a division of the battle-stained heroes of Verdun.
Mr David Gallaher, of Auckland, who is known throughout the Empine as the captain of the original All Black football team from New Zealand that made a sensational tour of Great Gritain in 1905, has enlisted and leaves for Trentham training camp on Tuesday week.
It is hoped that all poultry exhibitors will donat e a bird, and all other exhibitors part of their exhibit for auction, on behalf of the Women \s Working Club, an institution that is perseveringly trying to supply "our" boys at the front with necessaries and comforts.
In order to raise funds for the Tai■hape Branch of the Red Cross Society, some badges were obtained to be sold during the Show, and the members of the Dall-Vante Vaudeville Company kindly offered to sell the badges. So far they have met with great success, and their action in assisting is greatly appreciated by the local people.
The schouner Rachael Cohen, in her last trip to the Bluff from the Islands, brought back with her two sea deelephants—a male and a female. The
"Southern Times" says it is claimed that these are the first sea elephants to be landed on the mainland. They are huge animals, be'ng quite sever feet long and of immense girth, and are distinct from sea lions in appearance.
