Registrations for the 20th Reinforcements arc now well in hand. In most of the (Troops the Board wishes to impress on Recruiting' Committees the ur!gent necessity of keeping up the flow •of recruits, as it will be some time yet before the preparations for bringing the Military Service Act info operation will be completed. This wonk is now in progress, but in the meantime, and until the compulsory provisions of the Act can bo enforced, it is essential ■ here should be no slackening off in enlistments. We have now reached the stage in the great struggle when it is more than over necessary to maintain our force in the field with full strength. (Signed) W. F. MASSEY.
TROUBLE IN CHINA. PRINCIPAL MONARCHISTS ARRESTED. (Received 11.40) LONDON, July 17. The “Morning Post’s” Tientsin correspondent says with the issue of the mandate ordering the unrest and trial of the eight principal monarchists at Pekin, the Government practically conceded the southern demands; they revived the Nanking constitution, reconvened Pa lit and attempted to form a coalition cabinet. Nevertheless the prospects for cooperation between the north and south remain unsatisfactory, and each concession inclFes the Southerners to fresh demands. Northern Generals are urging th<? President to refuse further concessions. ~~~ •« TURKISH CRUELTY. A MUSSELMAN PROTEST. (Received 11.40) LONDON, July 17.
