A queer miracle happened; a-num-ber of dirty, evil-looking English boys crawled out of holes ahead and shouted “Hullo lads!” Others sobbed, big tears rolling down their grimy faces. These were three hundred West Kents and one officer. They had been isolated by the barrage fire.
