THE WHOLE LINE BOMBARDED. SMALL GERMAN GAINS. WITH HUGE ENEMY LOSSES (Received July 13. 10.30 turn.) Sir Douglas Haig reports:—Since the commencement of the battle t>,e enemy has been largely reinforced, and strongly attacked, at several pcints, our new positions during yesterday and last night, all were beaten off with enemy losses, except at. Hametz Wood and Trones Wood, where the enemy regained some ground. We are actively engaged in bombarding enemy positions between the main battlefield and 1 the sea, also raiding their front line. The Irish "Fusiliers penetrated the enemy's trenches south-east of Loos, at a point where they were strongly held. The Fusiliers remained for 20 minutes in heavy fighting, during which many Germans were killed; our casualties were slight. :
Opposite Hohenzollern Redoubt two companies of the Seaforths forced their way into another portion of the trenches after a stiff fight, many Germans being killed and wounded. A hostile machine gun destroyed, several dugouts that were crowded with the enemy, which we successfully bombed, and prisoners were taken Several aerial combats took place on the tenth; one German was destroyed and cne of ours was brought down by the enemy's gunfire. BOMBARDED BY SUBMARINE. WOMAN ONLY KILLED. (Received July 13, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 12. Official: A .submarine a few hundred yards off shelled the undefended village cf Seaham, in Durham. Thirty rounds of shrapnel were fired from three inciters, mostly around Seaham Colliery. There was one fatality,- a woman.
