Sir Douglas riaig reports: After te:: days and nights' continuous sflgh'tln'g- the troops have completed the methodical capture of the whole first system oil defence on a front of i 4,000 ■ yards. These consist of nua.eious continuous lines of fire tren- ■ hes and supports and reserve tieuches, extending from 200 0 to -1000 yards in depth. Tliey incline live strongly fortified villages ,~nd numerous heavily-wired entrenched woods and a large number of immensely strong redoubt*. The capture of each trench represented operations of some importance. The German success at Trones Wood after six costly attacks was of short duration, for we recaptured the whole except the northernmost end.
