Sir Douglas Haig reports: After desperate attacks the Germans reentered Trones Wood, suffering the heaviest casualties. Fighting continues. We gained a lodgment in Bois de Mametz. The enemy's defences at Bois de Manietz, have hitherto resisted all efforts. We also gained ground east of Ovillers and La Boiselle. Aviators made several successful attacks on various detraining centres, ammunition depots and aerodromes
