HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. CONCERNING THE RAILWAYS. WELLINGTON, July 10. The House of Representatives met at 7-30 p.m. „ i Mr Wilford asked the Minister for Railways a question as to the condition of the railways. He suggested that Mr March-Banks, formerly engineer of the Manawatu Railway, he instructed to make a thorough investigation of the condition of the railways since Mr Hiley took charge ; also to set up a Commission of Inquiry. Guthrie and Buick) commented on the report. After the Hon. Herries had replied the report was ordered to lie on the table and be printed. The report of the commissioners on the Native land claims at Waiau /(in Southland) was on the table, and was under discussion at the supper adjournment. After the supper adjournment, the Hen. Herries, in reply, pointed out that the decision was one arrived at by two judges in whom the greatest confidence was shown. Both Bills were reported from Committee without amendment, read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 10-35.
