Fifteen years’ ago 5 theQueen and I Visited- the great tiominiens. I treasure' tlie : 'abiding recollections of loyalty and affection evinced on that unique and memorable tour We on our part greet you to-day with feelings not less hearty ~nd sincere as representing those who, though separated by great dis--tances, hastened across the oceans to support the Motherland in the hour of danger. Gloriously have they ’■Killed that n tss'on, sacrificing their sons to the common cause and placing their wealth and resources at the ’wposal of ourselves and the Allies. Xover so long as the Empire lasts, will the heroism which immortalised the battlefields at Anrac, Ypres and Hoogo be forgotten. During the past eighteen months it has been my pleasure to inspect Dominion forces. . I can testify to the splendid quality of the men. Of their spirit, loyalty and devotion they have given. the most ample proof in the face of the enemy. I trust your stay here will be pleasant and instructive, and every oppor_ tunity will be given to the efforts made to keep the navy and army efficient, so as to bring the war to a victorious end. We can learn much from each other, so it is my earnest hope that such visits will he frequent and fruitful, and that they will be similarly reciprocated by visits from the Mother Country to the Dominions. These lend to consolidate the union of the Empire which Is consecrated by the memories of common sacrifice and heroic determination to defend if.
