GERMANS ADMIT RETIRING.
Times Service. London, July 2. A German pommuniquo reports: A great Anglo-French offensive took place on a 25 miles front, with, strong artillery and gas preparation. They gained no advantages worth mentioning from Commecourt to La Boisellc. They penetrated our first line in the region abutting on the Somme, compelling the withdrawal* of our division into prearranged positions. We lost the front line material, which was immovable. Other attacks were unsuccessful. Austro-Germans stormed the heights south-west of Tnrnopol.
