A communique says: Heavy fighting in our favour took place .all day north of the Somme in the region of Hardecourt and Curlu. We captured a fortified quarry east of Curlu > and gained a footing in the second lines at may po.nls south of the Somme. We captured the village of Frise and a wood at Alereacourt. Unwonnded prisoners (actually counted) captured by us on July Ist and 2nd now exceed GOOD, including 150 officers. Some guns and much material wore captured. French losses in the Somme region were insignificant This was due to the complete artillery preparations and the dash of the infantry.
