GREAT ENEMY ACTIVITY.

VERDUN OFFENSIVE RENEWED. GERMAN ATTACKS IN BELGIUM. Paris, Juno .'3O. A communique states that the Germans attacked a salient near Nieuport, on the Lombaertz Road. A counterattack drove them out from a portion of the trench where they had gained a footing. Our firo caught a strong Gorman reconnaisance between diamines and Rove and dispersed it before it neared our trenches. Other patrols shared the same fata at Guennevieres and northcast of Vingre. The enemy vigorously renewed the offensive from Avocourt to east of Hill 304. A series of most violent actions preceded by intense bombardments, and accompanied by jets of liquid flame, were made against our principal salients. Our fire broke the attempts and inflicted heavy losses. East of Hill 304 the enemy succeeded in gaining a small fortified work in our first Sine, the garrison being literally buried by the bombardment. A counter-attack at 1 o'clock in the morning recovered the work.
