On the item Public Health, Hospitals, i and Charitable Aid, Mr. Hornsby stat? ed that human life was at times at stake because certain members of the British Medical Association would not meet reputable medical men,, in consultation. Mr. Jennings wished to endorse the remarks upon the British Medical Association made by Mr. Hornsby. Ho pointed out that the Government was | paying out considerable funds'to assist . that Association, and the latter had no | right, where life was at stake, to refuse j to work with medical gentlemen front j other parts of the world, j Mr. Harris alluded to the British i Medical Association as a dangerous ; combine, and said the fact of this l combination being allowed to continue : was a dangerous and wicked thing, j He hoped steps would no taken by the ! Minister to put a stop to further proj ceedings of this combination. I Mr. Poland congratulated Mr. Horns;bv on his remarks. He thought the j . 1 ° j time would soon arrive' when Parlia-, ment would have to nationalise the medical services of the country. "te Minister said he would later make a statement as to proposals of the Government in regard to treatment of venereal trouble. As far as cancer was concerned the .has invited members of the Medical Association, which was scientific medical body of the Dominion,* to give the closest study to the disease. Discussing the attitude of the British Medical Association, the Minister said, that if that association was endeavoring to form what was originally a scientific association into a close corporation, then he was out, against it; let there be no mistake about that. So far as the legal position was concerned he had no power to strike off the roll any man avlio refused to meet in eon* saltation with another medical man, who was equally qualified to practice' but if Parliament would give him that power he would not hesitate to use subject to proper reservations.
