OBITUARY.

MRS. CAROLINE ANDERSON*. An almost lifelong resident of the city of Welling ton, ‘Mrs. Caroline AnI derson, mother ol Mlrs. D. S. Papworth. Taakape, passed away rather j suddenly at an early hour on Saturday morning. The .’immediate cause of death was internal rupture, the result of a sudden fit of coughing. She was in her usual health and spirits on Thursday, hut after feeling the first pain on Friday afternoon, she rapidly sank and passed awaiy in her sleep. The funeral left her late residence, Craigmiller, Kilhirnle, ,at 10 a.m. yesterday morning, for the Sydney Street burial ground. The respect in which the deceased lady was held was amply reflected in the great number of Wellington’s leading citizens and business- j men who assembled to accompany her remains to their last resting-rJlace. The hearse was overburdened with creations in the highest style of the floral art, the coffin inside being almost hidden from view by the many tokens of friendship, love and respect, there was a great number of cabs and motor-cars, followed by a longline of pedestrians. Among those following were the heads of the largest business houses in the city, many high np in the civil service, and also some •members of both Houses of the Legislature. The late Mrs. Anderson came 1 to New Zealand, when little more than an infant, with her parents; she married Mr. Henry Anderson, one of New Zealand’s foremost and most vigorous journalists, who was then editor of the 'Wellington Evening Post. There were eight children of the marriage, seven of whom are still living, Mrs. Papworth, of Taihape, being the sixth. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. James Paterson, and it is a singular fact that Mr. Paterson officiated at the deceased lady’s marriage and also baptised all her children. *
