BRITISH PRESS COMMENTS.
Received 9-25 p.m., June 21. LONDON, June 21. The "Daily Telegraph" says Britishers welcome the Economic Conference, the broad principles of which are entirely devoid of mawkish sentimentality for Germany. The Britishers will not be satisfied unless Mr. Asquith's pledges are given effect to without loss of time. ' The "Daily Mail" says that as far as words go, the Conference's proposals are perfectly satisfactory. They generally embody Mr. Hughes' views. The "Morning Post" says ifr Britain declines to accept the conference suggestions, she will frustrate the whole intention of the conference.
The "Daily News" counsels neither delay nor haste. The wisest note of the resolutions is the provision for the encouragement of technical and scientific research, which are the main cause of Germany's success, rather than taiiff. The paper adds: Free Trade was the tariff that enabled,. England to bear the strain of the war.
