‘•WHY ARE YOU NOT IN KHAKI?’ Samuel DodsAvorth, a hairdresser, of Bournemouth Road, Peckhani is the father of soldiers and when he sbav a young man Avhoni he thought should be in khaki preaching at a street corner his indignation got the better of him, with the result that he was charged at Lambeth Avith using insulting A\ r ords and behaviour wherby a breach of the peace might have been occasioned. Constable Woodman said he Avas called by a gentleman who A\ms holding a religious meeting. He found DodsAvorth in the centre of a croAvd of people airing his grievance against a young man. “What did you hear him say?” asked the magistrate. “I heard him say to the young man, ‘Why are you not in khaki I have lost tAvo sons at the front, and have another in hospital. Your place is at the front, not here speaking at street corners, you dirty cur!” “Perhaps he Avas right,” remarked Mr Chester Jones. ‘iWho Avas the man?” “A young man. I requested the prisoner to go aAvay, but he said: “I shan’t go for you or anybody else. I have a perfect right to stand here and say Avhat I like.” As the prisoner refused to go aAvay, I Avas obliged to take him into custody.” “I am very sorry, sir,” DodsAvorth said to the magistrate, “but, hearing this young man speaking the Gospel I merely said, “You ought to be in khaki.” “You are entitled to have that opinion, and very likely you are right’ Mr Jones remarked; “but you are not allowed to cause trouble in the streets.” “It shan’t occur again.” “On that' understanding you are discharged.” “Tiki” Stout is not made to tickle the palate and ruin the stomach, but to strengthen weak constitutions and make strong ones stronger.
