PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES.
Wellington; June 15. The Minister of Public Works in a statement to-night,, said -that«' itq Public Works Estimate this year! new votes would be placed on the Ho had no new money to work on. and the only money voted would be the unspent balances. If this pressed hard on the backblocks, where the need of roads was urgent, county councils should raise their lists after the Estimates were laid on the table of the House and recommend to him the alteration and transfer of votes so as to meet more urgent requirements. During the spring he would visit country centres where local body members could meet him and arrange for an adjustment of expenditure.
