THE RANGEWAEA HALL
(To the Editor)
Sir, —Re Rangiwaea correspondent: In defence of the Rangiwaea Hall Com s mittee, which according to jour correspondent, has proved itself effete, I must say that I think the public has been well served by the present committee and especially by the Chairman, Mr Carroll. There are continual expen. ses connected with the hall such as insurance and repairs, some of which, I believe, the Chairman has had to pay out of his own pocket. The reason why no functions lately have been held to pay off debts is that it has been felfi that any money which cpuld be collect* ed should go to patriotic funds. Your correspondent seems to be a person who is public-spirited,, and full of energy* Let him come to the assistance of the committee by carrying on those card parties, socials and dances, which h©' suggested, and please remember Mjr Correspondent, that after every sucS function the hall has to be cleaned by somebody. A meeting of settlers will ,be called shortly, when a balance-sheet; ay ill be produced and residents givefi a chance to elect a new committee.—l am. etc.. S. W. SPOONER.
(We are pleased to place our columns at the service of settlers, public bodiea and institutions in outlying settlements and townships; we know, from experience, that progress and much, good suits from such public discussions whetf conducted temperately.—Editor.) ?;
