A lady who arrived in Napier recently by the express train was walking along the railway platform towards the luggage van, when a man in the crowd snatched her handbag, containing business papers luggage checks, and some money, and made off. The whole affair happened in the space of a few seconds, and when a man in the crowd offered to chase the thief, the lady quickly pointed him out. The prospective benefactor however, was evidently reluctant to purj sue the thief. Everything points to the J fact that the thief was not working without assistance. “The strict censorship of news and cable mater that passes between England and America has been responsible for record business by way of wireless communication with Germany,” said the wireless operator of the Ventura in Sydney. “Practically all the commercial work is now carried out by way of aerials, wich not only saves time, but ensures delivery,” he said. “All the copy is handed in at the Navy office, where it passes through an American censor, but ns it nearly all relates to business matters there is very little for that official to do. So great is the demand to lodge messages that it has been found almost impossible to despatch; in one day the telegrams lodged in that period. That state of affairs will continue until the British censors peimit American business people to .have ■v tree run of the cable service.
