Later Admiral Jellicoe reported that the Hampshire with Kitchener •and his staff, was sunk on Monday night, at 8 o’clock, west ot the Orkneys, either by mine or torpedo. Four observers on shore saw four boats leave the ship in heavy seas. • , 2 A patrol vessel and destroyers immediatly proceeded to the spot, n searchers up to the present have only found some bodies ana a capsized boat.

The Admiralty announces that the Commander-in-chief of the Grand Fleet reports that His Majesty’s ship Hampshire, with Lord Kitchener and his staff on board was sunk last night, west of the Orkney s either by mine or Torpedo. Four boats were seen by observers to leave the ship. The wind was north-northwest with heavy seas running. Only bodies and a capsized boat have been found up to the present. There is little hope of survivors The Hampshire was on her 'way to Russia.
