A contemporary has asked whether the Kaiser has a secret service still operating in New Zealand? Last week it was made known in the local papers by Mr. J. S. Woarn, of Christchurch, that he had invented an effective method of bomb-throwing. The sequel reads like a Wmlequeux yarn cr phillipscppenheimer tale: On Saturday night, when Mr. Wearn was absent from his home for an hour or so, some person effected an entrance and made a fairly thorough search of the premises. The fact that no money or valuables were taken and that sealed envelopes were opened seems to lend colour to the theory that the interloper was searching for plans or information regarding the bomb throwing device. As the information regarding Mr Wearn’s system had been forwarded to Wellington the search of his house proved fruitless. But Mr. Allen doesn’t believe in spies! From what is heard in Taihape it seems desirable that greater attention should be paid to pre-German utterances. It is understood our local military authorities have certain individuals under strong suspicion and, is likely, at an early date, to relieve one or two of their liberty.
