The inhabitants of Loos, who had j lived a year under German rule in sight 1 of the British lines before the town was j recaptured, on September 26th,. have j been transported, to the Pyrenees, to be j sheltered there until their town, now i under the continual lire of German bat- | teries, becomes habitable again. They j brought with them copies of papers pub- j Ushed by the German authorities in the | French language in Belgium, and eireu- j lated in Northern France, in which | there appear numerous advertisements j that are occupying the attention of the 1 French authorities on the supposition i that they refer to war booty taken in ! France and Belgium, and put on sale by ; the Germans. One advertisment runs: j 1 A thousand secondhand electric motors 1 and dynamos for sale.*’ Among the j others are the following: ''Selling out j at factory prices, 500 pianos, French ! makes.” “One hundred and fifty thou- J sand bottles of champagne for sale at i prices that defy competition.” The i houses inserting these advertisements | are said to be German firms that have I established themselves in Brussels since i the occupation.
