IRELAND’S ADMINISTRATION.

DEFECTS IN THE SYSTEM. ONE CAUSE OF REVOLT. GOVERNMENT INACTIVITY. LONDON, May 26. During the sitting,of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Irish revolt to-day. Mr. Campbell, Attorney-Gener-al for Ireland, gave evidence that during his nine days of office prior to the outbreak he received no official information of any kind. He was not present at the conference at the ViceRegal lodge on Easter Saturday, and was not informed of it. He did not see Sir Matthew Nathan during those nine days, though only separated by a partition in Dublin Castle. Mr. Maurice Dockrell quoted a speech which Sheehy Skeffington delivered, declaring that the weakening of Britain was the advantage of Ireland, and describing Germany as Ireland’s friend. Mr. Booth, President of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, gave evidence that defects of administration were mainly responsible for th e industrial troubles and rebellion. The Irish Government’s inactivity during years of industrial unrest encouraged the growth of the most dangerous elements participating in the rebellion. Mr. Justice Shearman: “Armed volunteers and unarmed police means anarchy.” Witness: “Yes, in Ireland.”
