The latest suggestion to cope with the scarcity. of meat is to shoot rooks, but gamekeepers declare that the cost of shooting prohibitive as the birds could only bo retailed at a mark apiece. According to the newspaper Vorwaertz, horseflesh is selling at from two to three marks a pound. BERLIN, May 23. Official: The Batockes new Food Board is called the war feeding office. Batcckes is empowered to dispose of all food stuffs, raw material and fodder in Germany. There is also a regulation for the sale, consumption, expropriation, importation and exportation thereof. It is estimated that Germany’s oxen which numbered twenty million before the war, now only number eight millions. A great number of horses and dogs are being eaten.
