stumps to control the motion of artificial hands so that they are able to open and shut the fingers, fill glasses, ~and perform other actions. The musf cles of the stump are connected by ' means of catgut with the artificial arm and hand. The professors have discovered what muscles are essential., ' therefore best worth preserving in amputation cases. They are also experimenting in the transplanting of muscles.
