WAR CENSUS FIGURES.
SOME INTERESTING DETAILS. The Minister for Internal Affairs announced that he had completed the registration figures up to March 16 last, in the House on Tuesday. The total number registered was 303,704. Of these the number since accepted fcr the forces, but not called up at the time of making the register, was 4,567; these willing to join the forces, 11,277; not prepared to volunteer, but willing to serve in a civil capacity, 44,838; not prepared to volunteer in any capacity. 35.725. This number in-
cludes all those rejected as unfit, and who, for various reasons, such as residence in gads and asylums, are unable to offer. The number volunteered. but rejected totals 0234, British subjects incapacitated for other reasons, 4.265; foreign subjects. 4,538; British' subjects between 45 and 50 total 60.790; returned soldiers 434. British born between 17 and 18 number 17,367; men of military age, 19 to 44; total. 215.357; from 45 to 59, total 70,844. Out of 303,704 registered, 195,092 were born in the Dominion, 18.542 in Australia, 40,836 in England and Wales, 16,467 in Scotland, and 11.042 in Ireland.
Mr. Russell explained that full details would be available shortly, but as this was the first time the war census has been taken in this country, members would be interested to know the figures.
