LAND FOR SOLDIERS. A WAIRARAPA SCHEME. WELLINGTON, May 19. Matters relating to land for returned soldiers Avere discussed to-day between the Premier and Sir Joseph Ward and a deputation from the Wniravapa latnolic Society.
The Society put forward suggestions for assisting the Government in the selection of" land for returned soldiers, and urged that the Government should take for returned soldiers the Stony Creek estate, of 19.000 acres, near Martinborough, OAvned by Mr C. Algar, avlio is willing to sell. The Premier stated that the chairman of the Land Purchase Board Avo'uld visit the estate as soon as possible, and report. THE WILLOCHRA. DUNEDIN, May 19. Of the three Willochra men under observation two ha\ 7 e been discharged, so that there are only two smallpox cases, and one under observation. A clean bill of health Avill probably be given tonight, and loading operations aa'lH be gin to-moyrow. No trouble is anticipated from the Avaterside workers.
