THE NEW POWER HOUSE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As it will probably be an item of interest to you, I would lik e to extend mi invitation to you to visit the Taiiiape Power House, to see the new plant, just installed, in operation. As you are no doubt aware, it is a 12fi h.p. "National" engine (Britis.!l make) electric type, arranged to either drive the present electric turbine sets by belt or to be directly coupled. It is a 100 K.W. generator, ready for when the present power house plant needs extending. The gas for the engine is generated by a 200 h.p. Cambridge Improved gas producer, made by Jas. J. Niven and Co.. Ltd., the sole licensees of the National Engine. The whole plant being self-contained does not rely on any outside factor with the exception of coal or wood, employed to generate gas from either of the products. Up to the present there are quite a large number of these plants of all sizes in operation throughout New Zealand, all giving excellent results, the Otaihape Freezing Works, at Winiata, having a larger type than this one, and the Feilding Freezing "Works having just installed three smaMer types. Tie buildings and foundations we're all arranged by, and put in under, the supervision of Mr Burgis, Electrical Engineer. In view of you or your representative visiting the Power House, it would afford me great pleasure to give you any information you may desire, regarding this plant.—Yours faithfully,, C. J. POOLE, Electing Engineer, Jas. J Niven and Co./Ltd., I
