RUSSIANS ADVANCING TOWARDS BAGDAD.
PETROGRAD, May 8. A communique says: gradually advancing towards Bagdad, capturing Turkish stores. THE SHEEP SHEARERS' AWARD. REQUEST FOR EXTENSION. TO THE WHOLE DOMINION. WELLINGTON, this day. In an application made to the Arbitration Court, to-day, to extend the Marlborough shearers and woolshed employees' award to the whole dominion, the president of the Court said: "Assuming the Court had such power it was not prepared to exercise it in this case, but it would extend the award to sheepowners' unions which consented, the Shearers' Union could cite other employers in the ordinary way." It was stated that the Sheepowners' Federation had circulated the conditions amongst its unions and had asked that they be observed. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S SECRETARY. MR. T. E. DONNE APPOINTED. WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. T. E. Donne has been appointed to succeed Mr Wray Palliser as secretary to the High Commissioner in London.
