GENERAL TO VVNSIiEND HIS SWORD. _ AEROPLANES DROP BAGS OF FLOUR. " bUCCLSS NEAR BAGDAD LONDON, May 1. A German enmunique says: The prisoners at Kut include four gener als and 240 Brit’sh and 270 Indian officers. General Townshend was al lowed to retain h?s sword. ~ The German Press is jubiliant over the fall of Kut. The “Lokal Anzeiger” says Kut and the Irish roMhon makes England’s Black Week. The “Tageblatt” thinks the fall of Kut must precipitate an English Ministerial crisis. A telegram ' from Constantinople states that the British, in addition to sending the ’ill-fated food ship (which grounded four miles from Kut) attempted to relieve General Townsend by dropping sacks of flour from aeroplanes, but th e latter, which were old, were easily shot down gy the Turks, wrereupon General Townsend said he was willing to surrender if the army was allowed to depart. The Surks refused, and demanded an unconditional' surrender. In the direction of Bagdad the Russians repulsed Turks towards the West, capturing artillery.
