TE KAPUA NOTES.
Yet another of our old settlers .have taken their, departure from Te Kapua in the persons of M. and Mrs. H. C. Brickland, who arrived here some 16 years ago Having seen the place improve from muddy and perilous tracks and dense bush to its present highly improved state, in the shape of good metalled roads and snug and prosperous farms, the old settlers decided to retire from the more strenuous life to an easier place near town and let youngr and more active persons go on from where t-bey left off. Mr,, and Mrs. Brickland have one son, George, away 1 at the front, he having volunteered in the Main Body. He was reported as wounded, but has now recovered and back again at the front. Another son, Henry, is in Canada, in the NorthWest Police; while yet another, Charlie, is in business in Hastings. Five daughters are married —namely, Mrs. E. McNeill, Mrs. F. J. Hintz, Mrs. J. P. O'Callaghan, Mrs. E. Allen, and Mrs. W. Allen —while the two young children, Agnes and Willie, yet remain to their parents —showing how the members of a household become scattered far and wide. , -
