A COMMUNIQUE FROM IRELAND.

THE SITUATION PROGRESSING SATISACTORIL.Y ONE LEADER WOUNDED AND SURRENDERS. THE NOTED "JIM" CONNOLLY KILLED. (Reed. 5.30 a.m.) LONDON. April 30 An Irash communique states that the situation in Dublin had improved considerably on Saturday morning-, but the rebels were offering serious resistance in the neighbourhood of Saekville Street. A cordon of troops is encircling this quarter and steadily closing in. House-to-house fighting- rendered progress slow. The Pest Office and block of buildings east of Saekville Street have been destroyed by fire. A party of rebels was driven out of Roland's Mill, at Ring's End, by guns mounted on a motor-lorry. One of the rebel leaders in this area, named Pearse, Tras -wounded in th e leg and surrendered in the evening. Pearse asserts that he has authority to accept the same terms of surrender for his followers. James Connolly is reported killed. Rebels still -hold the Four Courts district, but a cordon of troops surrounds the area and is gradually closing- in. All information points to the conclusion that the rebellion is on the verge of collapse. A considerable number, of rebels have been made prisoners. Reports from the rest of Ireland are generally satisfactory. Belfast and Ulster ar,e normal'; Londonderry is satisfactory. Of a band of rebels located between Athernery and Craughwell 19 were captured. Another, band is entrenched at Inniscorthy against the police and are still holding out. Roadsand railways ar e clear to within four miles of town.
